This book is a lovely bedtime story for toddlers and preschoolers who will immediately relate to the soothing bedtime routine and the fears of abandonment which nearly every small child has experienced when their mother is no longer within sight and they are left alone in the dark.
The story is, predictably, related through the eyes of a baby llama dressed in red pajamas who desperately clutches a toy llama throughout the tale. There are 8-10 words of rhyming text on each page which chronicle the passage from the drink of water, mommy hugs and tuck-in, the realization of aloneness which dissolves into wide-eyed terror and, with the reappearance of mommy llama, finally into reassuring sleep. Opposing pages contrast the dark blueness of baby llama's room with the light whiteness of mama's chores in the kitchen. A variety of emotions play expressively over baby llama's face as the story progresses.
Great for bedtime story hour.
